the original nylon belt was shorter and did not have any felt on it.

I just had new bearings installed in 2023.
Original friction belt wore out very quickly;
I made a substitute out of nylon string, which is still in the machine;
it is non-linear, tension/difficulty increases as it heats up.
I do have a spare belt which I never installed due to its expected short life-span.
I can no longer use this machine due to age and recent major surgery.
